In the Netherlands two streams of higher education exist: universities, which are research-oriented, and universities of applied sciences (“hogescholen”). Both streams offer of four-year study programmes that are financed and fully recognized by the Dutch government. The quality of the study programmes is continuously monitored through external assessment and accreditation processes and inspection of the course contents.
This short film presents a day in the life of a Dutch university of applied sciences’ student . It illustrates the twofold mission of Dutch universities of applied sciences: to offer highly rated education and applied research with a strong orientation to professional practice.
